رمضان المبارک — Ramadan Guide

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims fast from true dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib), abstaining from food, drink and marital relations while nurturing taqwa (Qur'an 2:183–187). The beginning and end of the month follow the moon-sighting method adopted by your local community.

🍽️

Sehri / Suhoor

Eat before Fajr begins. Finish eating and drinking before the start of the fast. Suhoor is encouraged; see Sahih al-Bukhari 1923 and Sahih Muslim 1095. Check your local mosque’s verified timetable rather than using a generic global time.

🌅

Iftar / Breaking the Fast

Break the fast when the sun has set and Maghrib begins, without unnecessary delay (Sahih al-Bukhari 1957; Sahih Muslim 1098). Dates and water are common options. Avoid sharing unverified fixed reward claims.

🤲

Dua at Iftar

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ — Dhahaba az-zama'u wabtallatil-'urooqu wa thabatal-ajru in sha' Allah. Meaning: The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills. Reported in Sunan Abi Dawud 2357; authenticity grading varies by scholarly method.

🕌

Taraweeh & Night Prayer

Ramadan night prayer (qiyam) is strongly encouraged. Taraweeh is offered after Isha; the number of rak‘ahs follows different accepted juristic practices. Pray with humility and follow the practice of your local mosque (Sahih al-Bukhari 37; Sahih Muslim 759).

📖

Qur'an in Ramadan

Ramadan is the month in which the Qur'an was revealed (Qur'an 2:185). Build a manageable reading schedule: one juz per day is a common goal for completing thirty ajza, but consistency and understanding matter more than rushing.

💝

Zakat & Sadaqah

Zakat is an obligatory form of charity when its conditions are met; Ramadan is also a good time for voluntary sadaqah. Zakat calculations depend on eligible assets, liabilities, nisab and lunar-year rules. Consult a qualified scholar for personal cases.

🍚

Zakat al-Fitr / Fitrana

Zakat al-Fitr is due before Eid prayer according to widely taught rulings. The amount and whether cash is acceptable vary by madhhab and local guidance; use your local mosque’s current amount, not a fixed global figure. See Sahih al-Bukhari 1503.

✨

Last Ten Nights & Laylat al-Qadr

Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last ten nights, particularly the odd nights (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017). The Qur'an describes this night as better than a thousand months (Qur'an 97:1–5). Increase prayer, Qur'an, charity and remembrance.

🤍

Dua for Laylat al-Qadr

Meaning: O Allah, You are Pardoning and love to pardon, so pardon me. Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 3513.

🩺

Who May Be Exempt?

The Qur'an mentions concessions for illness and travel (Qur'an 2:184–185). Further rules for menstruation, pregnancy, nursing, chronic illness and missed fasts differ by circumstance and jurisprudence. Seek advice from a qualified scholar and healthcare professional where appropriate.

🚫

What Breaks the Fast?

Deliberate eating and drinking during fasting hours invalidate the fast. Other matters—including medication, injections, vomiting, menstruation and intimacy—need case-specific rulings. Do not rely on short social-media lists for complex questions.

🌍

Ramadan Around the World

Sehri and iftar times depend on the date, location and calculation convention. High-latitude regions may require special scholarly guidance. Use a trustworthy local timetable, especially when travelling.

🎉

Eid al-Fitr

Eid follows the completion of Ramadan and the accepted local announcement of the new lunar month. Give Zakat al-Fitr on time, attend Eid prayer and celebrate with gratitude and care for others.
